God is not for sale
2 Peter 2:1-3
"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them – bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping."
The TV is a powerful medium. It can reach millions with a single broadcast. It can move people to Christ and it can also fool and deceive people. This painting is not meant to be a slam on all TV evangelistic efforts but is meant to be a warning about the many who use God's name to profit themselves.
"And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."
Beauty through pain
"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
I used the backdrop of bad, painful news stories and overcrowed city housing for this bouquet of flowers. The flowers look as if they are weeping. But despite the dark depressing imagery the flowers still have an enduring beauty all their own.
Hope for Japan
On March 11, 2011, an earthquake struck off the coast of Japan, churning up a devastating tsunami that swept over cities and farmland in the northern part of the country. Hundreds died and thousands were affected. This piece is in response to the hurting people of Japan and shows the pain of that day but also proclaims the hope for that proud and resilient country. The Geisha represents the beauty of Japan. The "Red Sun" is made up of crying eyes. The bamboo represents growth and renewal. The whole piece resembles the Japanese flag.
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
"Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, "Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners? But when Jesus heard this, He said, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means : 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Fred Phelps, was the minister at Westboro Baptist Church, known for protesting and picketing in "God's name." He believed that God's hatred is one of His holy attributes and that their picketing is a form of preaching to a "doomed" country unable to hear their message in any other way.
"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves..."
"Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
The Old Testament is filled with keeping rules or keeping the Law. Jewish followers would offer sacrifices to God to atone for their sins. Many types of animals were used as sacrifices including a perfect or spotless lamb. Jesus came as a man to be the final sacrifice. He lived a life without sin… The perfect Lamb of God shed his blood for all who would believe in Him.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Jesus is described by over 100 different names in the bible. This image of Christ is made up of those names
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Song of Solomon 2:12
"Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land."

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18
For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are notseen ; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
